Ascension: Divine Spitballs and the Church - Homily for May 28

Readings for Sunday, May 28 / Ascension of the Lord: Acts 1:1-11  |  Psalm 47  |  Ephesians 1:17-23  |  Matthew 28:16-20

The Ascension of the Lord is not a time when Christ leaves the Church, rather it is a time when He takes full authority and is able to grant grace and power on a large scale to the Church. May we be docile instruments in the hand of so great a King!

Easter: If you love Me... - Homily for May 21

Readings for Sunday, May 21 / 6th Sunday of Easter: Acts 8:5-8, 14-17  |  Psalm 66  |  1 Peter 3:15-18  |  John 14:15-21

The Lord tells us today, "If you love Me, you will keep My Commandments." The keeping of the Commandments of God is, then, not so much a matter of checking boxes off as it is a measure of our love for the Lord Himself. Lord Jesus, we love You. Help us to love You more!

Easter: Pray for Peace - Homily for May 14

Readings for Sunday, May 14: Acts 6:1-7  |  Psalm 33  |  1 Peter 2:4-9  |  John 14:1-12

This weekend is the centennial anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady of Fatima to the shepherd children. As Pope St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI reminded us, the message of Fatima is even more important today than in years past. Let us heed the call to pray the rosary daily for peace and to make sacrifices for the conversion of hearts!

Easter: United to the Shepherd - Homily for May 7

Readings for Sunday, May 7 / 4th Sunday of Easter: Acts 2:14, 36-41  |  Psalm 23  |  1 Peter 2:20-25  |  John 10:1-10

The Good Shepherd calls us to follow after Him, but it is not enough simply to follow behind Him. We must be united to Him. The Church provides many paths to this union, but three hold particular importance: the Eucharist, the Scriptures, and daily prayer. Draw close to Him and He will draw close to you.

Prayer for the Pope

V. Let us pray for Francis, our Pope.
R. May the Lord preserve him, give him life,
and make him blessed upon the earth,
and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
Our Father... Hail Mary...
O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, look mercifully upon Thy servant Francis, whom Thou hast chosen as shepherd to preside over Thy Church. Grant him, we beseech Thee, that by his word and example, he may edify those over whom he hath charge, so that together with the flock committed to him, may he attain everlasting life.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
